GEM Participated in the Seminar on Promoting the Implementation of UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030)

Delivering the science we need for the ocean we want


The seminar on promoting the implementation of UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) was held during 12th and 13th January 2024 in Shanghai, China. This seminar was organized by Decade Collaborative Center on Ocean-Climate Nexus and Coordination Amongst Decade Implementing Partners in P.R. China (DCC-OCC), the State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research (SKLEC) at East China Normal University, and the First Institute of Oceanography (FIO), Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) of China. More than 100 people from the Chinese government, universities, research institutions, and non-governmental organizations participated in this seminar.


On behalf of the Global Estuaries Monitoring (GEM) Programme, Dr. Chong Chen from the State Key Laboratory of Marine Pollution at City University of Hong Kong gave a presentation and introduced the latest progress and prospects of the GEM Programme. The attendees had a heated strategic discussion and established a broad consensus on the cooperation to promote the implementation of the Ocean Decade Actions.


The seminar also deployed and communicated relevant work on the upcoming 2024 Ocean Decade Conference.
