Phase Two

In the upcoming phase two, our emphasis will be on utilizing passive samplers for estuarine pollutant monitoring, alongside the collection of global estuarine sediment samples. Interested collaborators are encouraged to complete the registration questionnaire to receive further instructions. The official launch of the second phase is anticipated for January 2026.

Please send back to Hong Kong only the following items for each estuary with four sampling locations:

After 14 days of deployment:

  • Five small bags: The small aluminum foil bags containing the smart sponges. After 14 days of deployment, take out the smart sponge from passive sampler TWO and place two duplicate samples from the same sampling location into the same well-labeled bag. Ensure that the field blank sample is placed into a separate bag.

  • Five small bags: The small aluminum foil bags containing the SPMDs. After 14 days of deployment, place two duplicate samples from the same sampling location into the same well-labeled bag. Ensure that the field blank sample is placed into a separate bag.

  • Five large bags: The large well-labeled aluminum foil bags containing sediment samples and the large aluminum foil bag used for the field blank sample.

After 8 weeks of deployment:

  • Five small bags: The small aluminum foil bags containing the Chelex-100 package. After 8 weeks of deployment, take out the Chelex-100 package from passive sampler ONE and place two duplicate samples from the same sampling location into the same well-labeled bag. Remember to place the field blank sample into a separate bag.

Please ensure that all samples are stored in a -20 degree freezer before dispatch, and utilize ice packs during the shipping process to maintain the samples at the required temperature.
