Insights from the GEM Webinar Series (2nd Event): Exploring Estuarine Challenges and Solutions

On January 22, 2026, the Global Estuaries Monitoring (GEM) Programme hosted the GEM Webinar Series (2nd Event), attracting over 85 participants. The webinar featured two distinguished speakers.

Prof. Amanda Reichelt-Brushett from Southern Cross University in Australia delivered a presentation entitled “Understanding Challenges in Catchment Management and River Health - An Australian Experience.” She shared insights into the physical, chemical, social, and political challenges encountered in the Richmond River Catchment in Australia, offering valuable perspectives for the audience.

Dr. Caroline Marie B. Jaraula, President of Cura Terra Inc. in The Philippines, presented on “Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products (PPCPs) in the Philippines and Their Dissemination in Embayments.” Her study focused on the distribution, sources, and seasonal variability of PPCPs in key aquatic systems in the Philippines, examining two watershed continuums, two tourist areas, and a pristine atoll, each facing diverse human population pressures.

Subsequent to the engaging talks, participants engaged in lively discussions with the speakers, fostering an interactive and informative session. The webinar concluded successfully, with GEM committing to organizing the next event in the near future.
